School Plan for Continuous Improvement

German Mills P.S. is committed to supporting the Board's literacy focus under the three Board focus areas of Quality Schools, Building Family and Community Capacity and Quality Workplaces.

The following is an outline of our school's Plan for Continuous Improvement including highlights of some of the strategies to support student achievement.

Our school focus for curriculum implementation and student learning is Literacy with the emphasis on Reading and Writing.  We anticipate that the strategies we have put in place will have a positive impact across the curriculum.

Our school focus for School Climate is the staff working together as a professional learning team with a focus on literacy.  Through the use of Balanced Literacy Programs delivered in blocks of time, we aim to meet the needs of all students as they develop and apply literacy skills across the curriculum.

Our school focus for parental and community involvement is to build a stronger curriculum connection between home and school.

Strategies to assist our school plan include the following:

  • Multiple Intelligence profiles
  • Bloom's Taxonomy
  • Teacher modeling reading and writing
  • Variety of assessment strategies
  • On-going professional development
  • Student-led conferences

Annual Education Plans are completed by grade seven and eight students and they focus on their successes and identify future goals.

Monthly character traits are featured in morning announcements.  Character Assemblies are held to promote school spirit and provide an opportunity for student leadership and to celebrate student success.  German Mills P.S. is a TRIBES school.

TRIBES is a process that develops inclusion, influence, and community in the classroom.  The TRIBES teacher builds these by providing care and support, high/positive expectations, and opportunities for students to participate.  The Four Agreements are honoured by students and teachers throughout their time together:

  1. Active listening
  2. Mutual respect
  3. Appreciation
  4. The right to pass/participate
