The Mission of Our School
The Mission of the York Region District School Board is that “we unite in our purpose to inspire and prepare learners for life in our changing world community.”
In order to support the Board's mission, the vision of Markville S.S. is of a community of future-oriented, self-disciplined, life-long learners, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. Our commitment is to a safe, caring, positive environment that fosters communication and mutual respect. Our focus is on the personal and ethical values in conjunction with the creative, social, academic, and technological skills needed to be successful in the ever-changing and competitive world.
Markville S.S. is located in the town of Markham in an area that was developed by the Melchior Quantz family of Germany who came to North America with William Berczy. The Tremain map of 1860 shows five houses fronting on present day McCowan Road, all of which were inhabited by members of the family, the senior member of which was George B. Quantz and his wife, Jane Bradburn.
Our school motto is living, Sharing and Learning Together.
Our school mascot is The Maverick.
Markville S.S. was officially opened in 1990. In 1996, an addition to the third floor provided a new math and computer wing.
A child-care centre, Markville Child Care Centre is operated by Family Day Care Services.
