Our School

The Mission of Our School
The Mission of the York Region District School Board is that "we unite in our purpose to inspire and prepare learners for life in our changing world community."

In order to support the Board's mission, the mission of Highview P.S. is to provide classrooms which are dynamic, inviting and purposeful, with staff who are focused on quality, service and teamwork.

History
Highview P.S. is named after the Highview Farm which once encompassed this land.  The Jennings family operated this farm, and their original farmhouse remains on the west side of Bathurst Street (built in the 1870s).

Our school mascot is the Highview Hawk which was designed by a Highview student in 1993.

Facilities
Highview P.S. was officially opened in 1993.   A fully accessible "Spirit Playground" was built on the site in 2000, funded by parents, community members, service clubs, local businesses and government agencies.

Community classes at Highview P.S. include: Development Disabilities (gr. 4 – 8), and Multi-handicapped (gr. 1 – 8).

A child-care centre, Highview Child Care, owned and operated by McClellan Community Child Care Centres Inc. is located at Highview P.S.

The school is adjacent to a public park and the Case Woodlot, which has wildlife, walking trails and a pond.

The York Region District School Board has a transportation policy that applies to all of its schools.
