- Students new to Canada (residing in Canada less than 6 months)
- Students transferring to YRDSB from home schooling in Ontario
- Students transferring to YRDSB from other boards in Ontario/other provinces with time-sensitive documents, e.g. work permits, refugee claimants
- Returning students from outside Canada
All other students should register as follows:
Step 1: Identify your home school.
Home schools are determined by your home address and school boundaries . You may be eligible to attend an alternate school through the transfer process initiated through your home school. Decisions regarding transfers are at the discretion of the Principal and Superintendent, based on availability of programs and accommodations. Step 2: Contact your home school and set up a registration appointment
Expect to spend up to 1 hour at the school for registration. Please note that late August and early September are extremely busy times for registration and wait times and appointments may take longer. Be sure to ask your school any questions regarding formation and supporting documents required for registration.
Step 3: Download and complete any forms, collect information and supporting documents required for registration at your schoolInformation required for registration includes:
- Student’s birth certificate
- Any legal documents related to custody arrangements if applicable
- Two documents showing proof of address - ie. Notice of Assessment, Rental Agreement/Purchase Agreement, Utility Bill, Driver’s Licence, Bank Statement
- Any assessments to support the student’s placement where applicable
- Elementary School Registration Form or Secondary School Registration Form
- Staff Administration of Medication if applicable
- Self-Administration of Medication if applicable
- Medical Care Plan if applicable
Step 4: Attend your appointment
At your appointment, your home school will help you identify any special programs that may be suitable to your child and will help facilitate the registration process.Students registering for secondary schools will select their courses online. Information about this process will be provided at the time of your appointment and is also available on the Guidance section of our website.
Summer Hours for Registration:
Elementary school offices are closed during July and August, you will need to contact the Community Education Centre in your area to set up your registration appointment. Secondary schools are open during July and August for registration, each school schedule varies. Please contact your school to verify hours of operation.
