The Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery began operation at Scarborough College, University of Toronto, in September of 1993. The Institute was founded as a result of an extraordinary partnership among the Board of Education for the City of Scarborough, the University of Toronto Faculty of Education, the Ontario Teachers’ Federation, the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training, and Human Resources Development Canada.
The goals of the Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery are:
- to train Reading Recovery Teacher Leaders
- to assist in the establishment of Regional or Provincial Reading Recovery Institutes across Canada
- to support research into effective early literacy instruction
