The York Region District School Board is committed to providing accessibility to individuals with disabilities, consistent with the principles of independence, dignity, integration and equality of opportunity. The Board has established an accessibility working group consisting of all stakeholders. The committee is guided by provincial legislation including the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA), the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
Annual Accessibility Plans
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act requires all publicly funded organizations to examine themselves annually to ensure that they are progressing in their efforts to become more accessible to persons with disabilities. Under the Act, school boards are required to file annual accessibility plans that “...address the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to persons with disabilities in the bylaws and in its policies, programs, practices and services.” The AODA committee welcomes input into the development and implementation of activities that will promote accessibility for all our stakeholders.
