GENERAL INFORMATION FOR DR. BETTE STEPHENSON CENTRE FOR LEARNING AND NIGHT SCHOOL:

Class Size
Usually, there must be a minimum of 25 students registered in a night school credit course for it to run.

Academic Assessment – for Adult Students

Adult students who are currently registered and have successfully completed at least one credit at the Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning may apply to have some secondary school credits granted to them under the Ministry of Education’s PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition) program. These credits are awarded based on “prior learning” through work experience, job related training programs, or education received outside Ontario or Canada. Following the assessment, students will receive information showing the number of credits that can be awarded (up to 26).

Academic assessments are also done by the college/university to which the student has applied.

Newcomers to Canada who are Internationally Trained Professionals or Trades People, are welcome to call the Accreditation Assistance Access Centre Telephone: 905-761-1155 Toll-Free Telephone: 1-877-761-1155 for free advice about their foreign post-secondary credentials and how to become licensed in Canada. The “International Credit Assessment Bureau of Canada” (ICAS) will evaluate all international academic documents at any education level for assistance with employment and educational or career planning. The night school centre will assist adult students registering for credit courses, and help them in their planning to reach their academic goals. Additional information is also available at Guidance Services

New Canadians
Immigrants wishing to attend day or night school MUST have a Permanent Resident Card, Refugee Claimant or Convention Refugee Status. A non-resident fee will apply to visa students. The current rate for a visa student to register is $1437.50 per night school course or $2875.00 per quadmester at the Dr. Bette Stephenson Centre for Learning (2 courses) plus current health coverage costs. (Please note fees are subject to change without notice).
