The York Region District School Board is a leading provider of public education, offering a comprehensive range of programs and services with a commitment to excellence in learning. York Region is the third largest school board in Ontario with over 120,285 students. The Board has opened 99 new schools since 1999 and completed major additions to 46 other schools to meet the demand for classroom space. There will be one additional elementary school opening in September 2013.

School communities in York Region include suburban, small town and rural neighbourhoods and a wide array of racial, ethnic and cultural groups. The Board is committed to the principles of equity and inclusivity enabling each student to learn and grow to his or her full potential. As a community of high-achieving learners, we embrace the strengths of students, staff and families from a variety of backgrounds, experiences and cultures.

Our long term goals are identified in the Trustee’s Multi-Year Plan. The Plan has a sharp focus on student achievement and well-being, the delivery of effective and appropriate educational programs and the effective stewardship of Board resources. The Multi-Year Plan is operationalized through the Director’s Annual Plan. This plan focuses the work of our schools and staff into five key areas - literacy and numeracy; equity; environment; engagement; and well-being - while continuing to meet the goals set out by our trustees.

We believe that each student can experience high levels of success. We also believe in the importance of each staff member being able to perform in a safe and supportive working environment that supports and instills the desire to do his or her best.
