2009 - 2010 Calendar

Welcome to Thornlea Secondary School! Thornlea is a vibrant school that has something for everyone!

Please spend a few minutes reading the information items under the "information" link on the tool bar above. Learn about many of the wonderful programs and opportunities available at Thornlea such as our: new Specialist High Skills Major program in Journalism and Media Arts; new global citizenship focus; Advanced Placement courses; timetabling solutions for grade 9 students needing extra support; timetabling solutions for grade 12 students needing scheduling options to complete their final courses in high school; how to choose courses responsibly, grade-by-grade; and much more.

To select your courses for 2009-2010: Click on the "courses" toolbar link above to see descriptors of the courses offered at Thornlea; Click on the "add" button to fill your "knapsack" with chosen courses; Read the important guidelines for selecting appropriately for each grade under the "information" link on the toolbar above, before finalizing your course choices; Print and sign the resulting course selection sheet; and Submit the final selections it to your homeroom teacher by the date below.

Grade 8 students from feeder schools - submit to your school on the date requested by your school; Grade 8 students from other schools - submit to Thornlea Feb. 6; Grade 9 and 10, choosing for grade 10 and 11, to homeroom Feb. 13; Grade 11 and returning grade 12, choosing grade 12, to homeroom Feb. 20.

Verify or make changes to your course choices carefully at mid-term in April. These choices determine the master timetable (what courses and how many sections of each course) for next year. Students and parents/guardians should refer to the York Region District School Board Regional Directory at the "regional directory" link on the toolbar for general information concerning the Ontario Secondary School curriculum and specifically the academic programs available in York Region schools.
