COURSE SELECTION PROCEDURE
General information concerning King City S.S. can be found in the "Information" section on the main menu bar. A Master Sheet of King City's Course Offerings and a 4 year High school Planning Sheet can also be viewed here. Specific course descriptions, subject area flow charts, and prerequisites can be viewed in the "Courses" and "Charts" sections.
The selection of courses for the next school year is the responsibility of the student in consultation with their parents/guardians. Students are strongly encouraged to seek guidance with their selections from subject teachers and Guidance Services and make their selections based on their post-secondary destination plan of employment, apprenticeship/trades, college, or university. Students should continue to update their Annual Education Plan to assist their decisions and career planning. Factors to consider when selecting courses include: - The career goals, abilities and interests of the student - Diploma requirements & pre-requisites for entrance to post-secondary schools or apprenticeships/trades
Check out the following website (Guidance Services) for the latest information concerning careers and post secondary education requirements.
It is our belief that students should assume responsibility for making careful educational decisions. The courses you select in the spring are the courses you are expected to attend throughout the following school year. Once classes begin in September, course transfers and changes are considered only in extraordinary circumstances and where space permits. Therefore, you are expected to take both time and care in the preparation of your educational plan. No course will be offered unless there is sufficient enrolment to support the program.
There is also an expectation that students enrol in a full course load. Full time students at K.C.S.S. are encouraged to take the following minimum number of credits:
Grade 9 - 8 credits Grade 10 - 8 credits Grade 11 - 8 credits Grade 12 - minimum 7 credits
